Terms you need to know

If you are a blogger or about to setup a blog and wish to earn some money from the blog and you start to apply to be some ads publisher. Some of the term you just need to know.

What is..
Publisher: you display the ads in your blog / site webpage, you are the publisher.
Advertiser : People/company who engage the ads/marketing company to place their advertisement.
CPM : Cost per thousand. Means if you are placing an ads in your website and the advertiser is paying 0.05 CPM and in a day, your website visited by 2,000 people, you will get 0.10. (2,000/1000 * 0.05).
CPC : Cost per click, this is base on how many people click on the displayed ads. The advertiser will pay by #of click.
CPE: Cost per engagement, in short this means, you engage to the advertisement. Example, if there is a short view in the ads and you mouseover and let the ads expand and play the short clip or its a bar running ads and you mouse over and result a small window popup and the ads show in full size. This count and the advertiser will pay you base on how many engagement received.

You also can apply for affiliate program where you display the small ads in your website (example: for domain name purchase) and if your blog visitors click on the ads and purchase / subscribe to the company services, the company will pay you the $$.

Happy blogging.

Wordpress.com Advertising

Feel like want to start your own blog and want to start to be online advertisement publisher and earn from blogging?
Which one you are going for? Blogspot? Wordpress.com?
Do you know that if you sign up for Wordpress.com, the third party advertising is not allowed?
If you plan to put Google Adsense, Yahoo, any text link ads and any third party ads, forget about this wordpress.com
If you plan to put any affiliate ads, forget about wordpress.com
You can find the further details here from wordpress.com/advertising
Am I kidding? then how about those blogger who are using wordpress? Well, they do provide some other solutions. Have your own wordpress installations. How? Find a hosting place who support wordpress and buy your own domain name and start to setup your blog there.
It sounds complicated especially if you are not familiar with the term webhosting and domain name.
What is domain name? its the registered URL for your blog example: www.google.com
What is webhosting? A place to put all your files and photos of your blog.
Well, wordpress.com provide you the free hosting, but they restrict you putting any third party ads unlike blogger. But if you have your own hosting and its pre-installed with wordpress then you can put in any advertisement you want. They do not restrict that.

So if you are planing to have your own webhosting and using wordpress, you need to ensure the webhosting company stated that they support wordpress in this case.

Happy blogging.

Google Publisher toolbar -Ad Overlays

This morning the google chrome prompt me some message mentioned about enabling ads-Overlay. Seriously I have totally no idea what is this. I just click yes and carry on to put in my domain name in the google publisher toolbar setting and the next moment I went to check my blog, the ads banner all grey out with some funny wording which I had no idea what is it. I was rushing for something hence I do not have time to check on this until now.
What is the 'Ads Overlay', once you had enabled this and login to the google adsense toolbar, it will grey out the ads banner and show you what is your earning for that particular ads sections. This sounds useful but if you are serving ads from other places instead of google and somehow the ads source stream is google, the banner will get grey out as well and no other information shows. (refer my 3rd screenshot)

Google publisher toolbar, Google Chrome

Google publisher toolbar, Google Chrome
This ads not from google but get overlay with no information like todays earning etc showing from google publisher toolbar featured info.
Google publisher toolbar, Overlay

If you accidentally turn this overlay on like I do, no worries, here I am going to show you how to turn it off. step by step.
1) Just go to Chrome setting - Extensions and select Options.
Google publisher toolbar, ads-Overlay
2) Remove the url from site authorised to show ad overlay and click save.
Google publisher toolbar, ads-Overlay
3) Refresh your blog page and its done. No more overlay. If you wish to turn the ad-overlay  back, just follow the step 1 & 2 and instead of remove the url, you just add in the url you want and click save.

Its simple and fast.

Happy Blogging :D
